Jeppe Hein - Reflection
22. May – 09. October 2016
In 2016, Kistefos presented the exhibition Reflection by the Danish artist Jeppe Hein (b. 1974). Hein lives and works in Berlin and has exhibited at numerous museums worldwide. Today, he enjoys great international recognition as one of the most important artists of his generation.
The exhibition Reflection presents a range of Jeppe Hein’s works from 2002-2016 and embraces almost all aspects of his artistic production. By combining different types of work, Jeppe Hein juxtaposes ways of interaction, changing speed and mood throughout the exhibition. While some works ask us to engage in active interplay and participation, others challenge us to block out the surroundings in order to concentrate on the here and now. Using simple shapes and materials such as mirror, neon and water colors, Jeppe Hein works in the cross field between art, architecture and technological inventions.
Jeppe Hein invites us to experience the artworks with our body, as when we have to ride a bicycle to activate a specific work of art. By creating a space for both active play and mindful contemplation, Jeppe Hein wants to sharpen our awareness of ourselves and our surroundings.
The exhibition was curated by Marie Nipper.
